Some songs don’t just play through your speakers — they walk right into the room, pull up a chair, and speak to the part of you that thought it was too far gone. Momma Loves Me is one of those songs.
It started as a quiet demo Bear Rinehart played backstage for Brandon Coleman of The Red Clay Strays. Brandon’s mom had raised him on NEEDTOBREATHE’s music, so when he heard the chorus, he didn’t hesitate — “Yes, we’ve got to do this.” Under the hands of producer Dave Cobb, they kept it raw: warm harmonies, gentle strings, slide guitar, and space for the words to do the heavy lifting.
And those words carry weight. “Momma loves me, I’m still born again” isn’t just about a mother’s love — it’s a mirror of the Father’s. It’s the truth Paul clung to when he wrote, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers… will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38‑39). That’s not a verse you skim — that’s a promise you stake your life on.
I hear this song and I’m back in the seasons where I thought I’d burned every bridge. Where shame whispered louder than hope. But grace has a way of breaking in — sometimes through a friend’s voice, sometimes in the quiet with God, and sometimes in a song like this. It’s the living reality of Ephesians 2:4‑5: “But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved.”
That’s why Momma Loves Me isn’t for the polished and perfect. It’s for the ones who know they’ve been rescued. For the prodigals who still smell like the pigpen but see the Father running toward them anyway. For the weary who need to hear, one more time, you are still His.
When the last note fades, you’re left with more than a melody — you’re left with an open door. To believe again. To come home again. To rest in the truth that you are loved, not because you’ve earned it, but because He has called you His own.
“As your listening to Momma Loves Me, let it find you. Let it remind you of the love that never lets go — the kind that will carry you all the way home.”
