I remember seasons when faith felt like something fragile, something I had to hold together with my own strength. Yet the truth is, faith was never meant to be built on shifting emotions or circumstances — it was meant to be anchored in confession, in the unshakable words of belief. That’s why “Creed,” performed by Third Day with Brandon Heath, resonates so deeply. It’s not just a song; it’s a declaration.
Originally written and recorded by Rich Mullins, “Creed” has long stood as a musical rendering of the Apostles’ Creed — one of the earliest statements of Christian faith. Third Day, known for their southern rock sound and heartfelt worship anthems, joined voices with Brandon Heath, whose storytelling style brings warmth and clarity. Together, they breathe new life into Mullins’ timeless words, reminding us that what we believe is not abstract, but living and active.
For me, this matters because my testimony has always been about finding solid ground when everything else seemed uncertain. When I hear “I believe in God the Father, Almighty Maker of Heaven and Earth,” I’m reminded of the times I had to cling to that truth when nothing else made sense. It’s the same for many of us: belief becomes the anchor when storms rage.
Scripture ties this confession directly to the call of Romans 10:9 — “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” That’s not a casual statement; it’s a promise. And Hebrews 11:1 presses us further: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” These verses challenge us to chew on the depth of belief, not just recite words but live them.
The song also echoes Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 15:3–4, where he reminds the church of the gospel: “That Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day.” This is the heartbeat of “Creed” — not just a melody, but a proclamation of the gospel itself.
And so the question becomes: what do we do with this? It’s not enough to admire the song or nod along to the words. Faith is meant to move us. If belief is real, it shapes our choices, our compassion, our courage. Today is the day to let confession become action — to live out what we sing, to let the words of “Creed” become the testimony of our lives.
Third Day and Brandon Heath’s collaboration reminds us that the ancient words of the church are still alive, still calling us to stand firm. Let’s not wait for a better time or a safer moment. The time to believe, to act, to live out the creed, is now.
