🌊 Artist of the Week Feature — Jeremy Camp “Deeper Waters Ablum”

Jeremy Camp has never been a stranger to deep waters. His life and music have been shaped by seasons of loss, surrender, and the relentless pursuit of God’s presence. Born in Lafayette, Indiana, to parents who were pastors, Jeremy grew up surrounded by faith but didn’t truly understand the cost of following Jesus until tragedy struck. His first wife, Melissa, passed away from cancer just months after their wedding — a heartbreak that could have drowned him. Instead, it became the place where God taught him to breathe underwater. That testimony has been the anchor of his ministry ever since, and it’s why his songs carry the weight of someone who has truly walked through fire and come out refined.

His newest album, Deeper Waters, feels like an invitation to step off the shore and trust God in the places where your feet can’t touch the bottom. The title track is a bold declaration of faith, echoing Isaiah 43:2, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” It’s a reminder that the presence of God doesn’t always calm the storm — sometimes He meets you in the middle of it and teaches you to walk on the waves.

“These Days” is a song that feels like sunlight breaking through clouds. It reminds me of Philippians 1:6, “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” In my own life, there have been seasons where I’ve wondered if God was still writing my story — this song reminds me that He hasn’t put down the pen.

“Closer to You” is the heartbeat of the album for me. It’s a prayer I’ve prayed in my own valleys — that no matter what I lose, I would gain more of Him. Psalm 73:28 says, “But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.” This song captures that truth perfectly, turning surrender into worship.

Then there’s “No Survivors,” a fiery return to Jeremy’s rock roots. It’s not about destruction — it’s about leaving nothing of the old life standing. Galatians 2:20 comes to mind: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” It’s a battle cry for anyone ready to burn the bridges back to who they used to be.

Jeremy Camp is my Artist of the Week not just because he’s one of my favorites, but because his music has been a lifeline in my own walk. His songs have met me in moments of grief, doubt, and surrender, and they’ve reminded me that faith isn’t about avoiding the deep — it’s about trusting the One who calls you into it. Deeper Waters isn’t just an album; it’s an altar, a place to lay down fear and pick up courage. And if you let it, it will pull you closer to the heart of God, where the waves can’t take you under.
